A flexible mind is a joy forever! Pushing the boundaries of our thinking and acting

25 May, 2024 @ 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

INVITATION

In societies around the world, we see a lot of polarisation and hear a lot of judgements about dissenters. It seems that more walls are being built between people than bridges.

We want to build bridges and connect while preserving everyone’s individuality and (confrontational) diversity. This requires something very essential from each of us in our encounters: to be truly open to what is strange (Ruth Cohn), to not only tolerate the “other” but (partly) assimilate it.

This is easier said than done. Because we are not naturally flexible, and certainly not in our thinking and judgements; our brain has all kinds of devious ways of constantly confirming its own rightness. It takes courage to doubt and energy to question one’s own comfortable way of looking, thinking and acting.

And that is exactly what we are going to do on 25 May: look ourselves in the mirror and let ourselves be mirrored by others and each other. After the success of our previous meetup on The value of contradictions and the art of Deep Listening, we fancied a followup.

We drew inspiration from the Dutch philosopher Lammert Kamphuis’ booklet “Addicted to our own rightness. Plea for perspectival agility” and by the ladder of inference of professor at the Harvard Businees School Chris Argyris (1923 – 2013). Of course, we also relate to elements of the TGI system, especially the axioms.

Our programme

  • – Introduction and check-in
  • – Mini-lecture
  • – Practice of flexible thinking on own examples
  • – Transfer and relationship with TGI elements

Everyone is welcome at this meetup (also if you did not attend in December) – please bring a (different thinking) guest if you like!
