 News from the coordination team

We started 1,5 year ago, with orientation and exploration around a new shape of community in ‘TCI -land.
At this moment, its a fact: the community is a reality! We made formal steps such as incorporation, the website is in the air, we have a bank account, the first meetups and general assembly have been organized.
It took us quite a bit of time, gave us fun, sometimes headaches, a lot of interesting meetings with nice people.
Now the time has come to invite others to participate more actively: using the platform we created on the website, to online meet each other, start conversations, make a personal profile and help the community organization: do practical things like writing a newsletter or selling the merchandise; things that need to be done, to keep things going.
This all while living our leading principles for our community:
● Light & lively
● Flexible and natural ways of organizing ourselves
● Equal responsibility of liveliness and quality of what we share for Looking back at our first Community General Assembly
On February 11th we had our thirst General Assembly. which at the first part had 27 participants. In this first part the members of the coordination team were chosen, and the anual figures and budget for 2023 were presented. Than there was a speed-date, process to help us to get to know each other.
During the second part of our meeting we were joined by a group of participants from India. They were together in a TCI course. It was fun to be together with an international group of planetary citizens!  If you want to read the minutes, you can click hereLooking back at the meetup of March 18th
What happens when I cannot speak my mother tongue? Let’s explore impact of speaking a foreign language on our communication and experiences togetherCreating meaningful encounters between planetary citizens with a diversity of mother tongues, by exploring, experiencing and discussing our possibilities and limitations. That’s what happened at this meet up!

The value of contradictions and the art of deep listening – what do we make of it?
In this meetup, we will dive further into the phenomenon of polarisation and practise the skills of deep listening. Even online, we can create a space to explore and constructively communicate different points of view. Contradictions, what can we make of them?

TCI and me as a planetary citizen?

In this regular feature we invite members to introduce themselves and tell us more about TCI in their lives, being a planetary citizen in their own world. Using the form of a ‘relay’  two people introduce themselves in each edition and then invite two others to introduce themselves in the next edition.
Do you like to be the next one to be asked to introduce yourself? Create your profile on the website!

TCI and me as a planetary citizen Dear fellow planetary citizens,My name is Mical Sikkema, and I am a 71+ year old woman living in Enschede, NL, having moved here from the US in 2000.I came to Enschede for love, leaving Seattle, WA, USA at the age of 49 to join my (Dutch) husband in his home (whom I’d met at a conference in Germany two years prior). Tragically, Bob died just 2 1/2 years later. But I stayed on, found a job as a psychologist, working until retirement in 2017. Through my work that I came into contact with TCI, when seeking training in group dynamics in order to more effectively lead the intervision groups for whick I was responsible. I was delighted to find a method resonating with my years of experience as an experiential psychotherapist rooted in depth psychology.TCI broadened and deepened my capacity to look at, explore and understand interaction at a new level…explicitly taking into account the different aspects/levels of interaction influencing our lives, the choices we make and the ways we go about pursuing and accomplishing the things that are important to us.TCI helped me to realize that it is through working together to lay a foundation of common ground that we can also find solutions that we can all – even with our differences – embrace and work to accomplish. In a nutshell, it changed my life.Since retirement, I haven’t had much to do with TCI officially. Yet, here I am, in this group of TCI Planetary Citizens, for sollely existential reasons. Because I am very deeply troubled by the destructive course that this world – at every level, from personal, to local, all the way to global – seems to be taking. Again and again we humans seem to have great difficulty with facing the gravity of the situations we have co-created. If anything, it seems to get harder and harder for us to join together, with our differences and divisiveness, and seek a way to work together towards solutions that will take us all into account. It seems so hard for us to openly acknowledge and embrace that, whether we like it or not, we actually ARE a WE. And thus to “grit our teeth” and work together to face our differences, address and deal with the disturbances that keep us from being able to move forward together and thus identity and then make the necessary decisions, painful as some of them may be, to heal our planet, our world and ourselves.I am here because, to me, TCI is a process that – per definition – is grounded in finding and manifesting solutions that are reached by a genuine working together arising out of the common foundation we create, differences and all. TCI and me as a planetary citizen
Dear all,
Thank you for getting the opportunity to introduce myself here. My name is Beate Christensen, 71 years old. I live in Denmark now for 37 years, made my first TCI course in 1976, following several courses until my  adventure  to move to Denmark to my Danish husband.
I have 3 children ( and also now 5 small grandchildren), all are bilingual, talking German with me, feeling they are more danish and partly german, using danish as there mother tongue.
I always felt to be a planetary citizen, crossing even the border every day to my work in Germany as a special education teacher. This crossing the border talking both languages every day made me feel like opening up to even more intercultural aspects. I am retired since 5 years. Recently I got my TCI Diploma (having a projekt with my  children and their families and my former husband and his wife from Greenland and their son) on how our multicultural life enriches our families). I visited TCI courses in Germany , enjoying to get deeper in the TCI world again (never missed the TCI contact in my daily life and school work) and realized how much  I was missing the planetary citizen aspect in the courses, feeling my Danish identity becoming more and more important during those many years, living in Denmark and working in Germany . It was a growing proces , always trying to find people with the same themes, missing to exchange those experiences with close friends in Germany,  and getting also close friends in Denmark. This means that I also feel sometimes excluded in Germany while having adopted Danish behavior and social rules and now less excluded in Denmark even though  having my roots with me from Germany. On the other hand it is always nice  to talk to people from other countries living now in Denmark. It is a ”WE” feeling of   being a ”stranger” in similar situations.  That is why  I feel I am lucky, having the opportunity to become a member of The TCI Planetary Citizen with all the different levels of lives you have as members, what it means  living with more than 1 language and also  combining/integrating  many kultural aspects as one person . The exchange of our experiences will open up for many more themes we can share and  to widen  our  borders to human relationships.
