Welcome to the first planetary newsletter! This is the first newsletter of the TCI community of planetary citizens. With these newsletters we want to keep you informed about developments, scheduled activities etc. And we also want to use them as a way to get to know each other, and to learn about the ways in wich each of us is working with TCI and/or spreading the philosophy. Being a planetary citizen in this world today and how we are doing that. So please fill in your profile on the website! We also invite you to visit our youtube channel We sent you this newsletter because we already were in contact with you. If you don’t like to receive more newsletters, please unsubscribe from the list, using the link at the bottom of this newsletter. I wish you a lot of reading pleasure on behalf of the coordination team, Thea Looking back at our kick off at the 30th of september On the 30th of September, we had a milestone: our first online meeting to get to know each other, to see the website, to show some of the scheduled activities and to show you how far the coordination team is in the proces of developing things. There were 39 people from India, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands. When you missed our kick off, you can watch the slides by clicking here Let me tell you about two highlights this afternoon. In small groups we talked with each other about the quotes of Ruth Cohn, that are printed on the community shopping bags. Led by the theme; Shopping with Ruth Cohn, where does she inspire me. The quotes we used were:Courage is our ability to make choiches under riskIn order to realize my potential i have to be in relation with othersI am not almighty I am not powerless I am partially powerfulEvery one chose a group based on the quote they wanted to talk about. A lot of lively conversations took place. At the end of our meeting we watched a sand animation made by our member Linde Sevenhuijsen about the birth of our community. A creative end of our inspiring afternoon. Afterwards, we received some really positive responses. You can (re)watch the sand animation by clicking here TCI and me as a planetary citizen? In this regular feature we invite members to introduce themselves and tell us more about TCI in their lives, being a planetary citizen in their own world. Using the form of a ‘relay’ two people introduce themselves in each edition and then invite two others to introduce themselves in the next edition. Do you like to be the next one to be asked to introduce yourself? Create your profile on the website! My purpose is to contribute to the development of people. My name is Thea Beentjes. I am living in the Netherlands, in Benningbroek, a small village 40 kilometres north of Amsterdam. I am married, have 3 adult daughters and 3 grandchildren, 2 boys and a girl. The girl and her mother live in a tiny house next to our house. This gives me the privilege of seeing a baby grow and develop from up close once again, now in different relationship not as a mom but as a granny. I started learning TCI in 2006 and ‘went all the way’ up to becoming a TCI teacher. From the moment I did my first TCI course i was affected by it. The way my professional and personal development were fueled by TCI, touched me enormously. Now I use TCI every day in my daily life as well as in my work as a teamcoach and trainer. I am also a a member of the team TCI teachers, in which we as a volunteer, lead the TCI courses for young adults. A wonderfull, inspiring thing to do. TCI gives me the opportunity to analyze difficult or complex situations in my life or in the teams that I work with. I makes me a better person, and a better planetary citizen because it helps me to make decisions after looking at all the factors that are important in a situation. Therefore I am happy that I can also contribute to the new community as a member of the coordination team and as planetary citizen. Dear fellow planetary citizens. It is a great pleasure to have the chance to introduce myself to you in this first newsletter of our community! My name is Ingeborg Kooger, 37 years young, passionate about (too?) many things and equally passionate about reducing the ‘business’ that all these passions create in my daily life 🙂 Dancing, reading and mindfulness help me balance the never balanced… I am part of this community (and its coordination team) because I believe that TCI is here to support us to be planetary ambassadors. Writing this introduction made me reflect deeper on what this means to me. I’d like to share with you how the notion of planetary citizenship connects to my personal and professional life today. The notion of being a planetary citizen is close to my heart and something I am often aware of and confronted with in my daily life. My days a full of ‘planetary reminders’. Aspects of my life that show how the course of my life is closely connected to the journeys of others that started in a different corner on this planet. I was born and raised in the Netherlands but live in Norway with my partner Santiago (from Spain) and my stepson Marco (half Spanish, half Polish and born in Norway). Currently, I work as a social worker. Mostly with clients that have immigrated to Norway (like myself). I try to help them in finding a job and finding their way in Norway. I speak Norwegian with my collegues and clients. Neither me nor most of my clients have Norwegian as their mother tongue. At home, I speak mostly English. Neither me nor my partner have English as a mother tongue. To my stepson, being raised in by parents from different countries and cultural backgrounds, English is his mother tongue. He is 5 years old and says that he is the only one in our family who comes from England 🙂 Reading what I just wrote, the thought crosses my mind that we just might sound like a bunch of misfits. And yes, since I left ‘my’ country I never feel completely at home any more (even though I never felt that I strongly identified with being Dutch). In a certain way I have lost a sense of natural belonging by immigrating here. However, I also experience all the bridges that we build as planetary citizens. In my case through love, loss and language. If it was not for these possibilities, I would not have been able to learn, love and live as I do today. At the same time, my work confronts me almost every day with the need for ambassadors of a planetary perspective. I have a client who is in deep emotional pain because he cannot see his dying father due to the rules of this country or continent that don’t let him travel. Or in case of other clients. That cannot study. Or work. Or… There is still a lot we can do, we should talk about, we can raise awareness on. Perhaps this is what I feel most passionate about at the end of the day. I’m looking forward to being a part of this community. To seeing this community grow beyond borders. Both in the literal and figurative meaning of the word. Because it is in relationship with one another that we are able to expand the understanding of ourselves, ‘the other’ and where this distinction ultimately dissapears. Opening of the Ruth Cohn archive in Berlin The 18th of october was a special day this year. In Berlin, the Ruth Cohn archive was opened during a congress. One of our members, Annelies van der Horst, interviewed Professor Matthias Scharer, who worked for years to make the archive a reality. You can watch a video of the interview by clicking here.
